Tragedy struck on Friday morning when a Sienna space bus rammed into a moving truck from the rear, killing six people and leaving three other injured.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogere Unit Command carried out a rescue operation at the accident scene on Friday, 30th August, 2024, at Verony, Ogere.
According to FRSC Public Education Officer, Ogun State Sector Command, Chief Route Commander, Florence Okpe, the accident happened at about 0740hrs on Friday.
Okpe said the accident involved Aash Toyota Sienna with registration number EPE692EL and a truck that could not be identified, as it was on motion when the crash happened and didn’t stop after the crash.
“A total of two male adults, seven female adults were involved in the crash. Two male adults and four female adults were killed, while three female adults were injured in the crash. The injured victims were taken to Patmag Hospital, Ogere, and the corpses were deposited at FOS IPARA Morgue”, Okpe said.
The suspected cause of the crash, according to the FRSC, was excessive speed on the part of the Sienna Space Bus, which rammed into a moving truck from the rear. The truck did not wait after the incident.
The Sector Commander, Ogun Sector Command, CC Akinwumi Fasakin, described the crash as an avoidable act if proper caution was fully put in place by the driver.
Fasakin urged motorists to ensure they give maximum concentration to driving as it is an act that requires such and obey all traffic rules while driving on the highway. He further commiserated with the families of the crash victims and wished the injured victims quick recovery.
