As the year is drawing to an end, the outgoing Sector Commander, Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Patrick Davou, has urged all drivers to limit their speed and avoid being in a haste, disregarding safety measures.
He gave the advice during a recent exclusive interview with Transportation Plus Magazine in his office.
Against the notion that the embers months, which is September to December, is synonymous with accidents, Davou said there is no demon that causes accident during the last four months of the year, insisting that the period is the same thing as every other month of the year but human factors and carelessness cause increase in number of crashes.
According to him, excessive speed and hastiness on the part of the drivers to make many trips are parts of the factors responsible for many crashes during the ember months. He therefore urged all drivers to be patient, careful and be safety conscious during the ember months.
Meanwhile, the sector commander has urged motorists to always fasten seatbelt whenever they sit in front of vehicles.
Davou who is retiring in October, 2024, said the seatbelt is meant to prevent the driver and whoever sitting in front of vehicles from hitting their head against the windshield and as well prevent them from any other imminent fatality when there is accident.
According to him, it is against the traffic law for anybody to sit in front of a vehicle without fasten the seatbelt.
“Sitting in front of vehicles without fasten the seatbelt is violates traffic law, and it attracts huge penalty”, he said.
He therefore urged all motorists in Lagos and across the country to obey traffic laws and also be safety conscious by always fasten their seatbelts.
