Tragedy struck along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday when a commercial bus involved in lone crash, killing 10 people and another six people injured.
The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Oyo State command, Joshua Adekanye, confirmed the crash to the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to Adekanye, the commercial bus with registration number TRK 135 ZY, was traveling overnight from Malumfashi, Kastiina State, and suddenly came across a truck carrying a container that was driving against traffic around 6.30am, around the Guru Mahajji area of the road.
The sector commander stated further that the bus, in order to avoid the truck, hit the container and fell into a ditch resulting in the death of 10 persons and six others injured, while the truck run away, adding that the total number of people involved in the accident were 18 which comprises 17 male adults and a male child.
Adekanye said “People killed in the auto crash are 10 male adults. People injured are six, including five male adults and one male child, while two adult males were unhurt.”
According to Adekanye, the injured persons were taken to Ibadan Central Hospital for medical attention while the dead persons were deposited at Adeoyo Hospital morgue.
The sector commander called on motorists to always shun night travels and driving against traffic, saying the accident might not have happened if the bus was not traveling overnight from Kastiina State.
